Legendary Dutch player and coach Johan Cruyff has been diagnosed with lung cancer.
A statement on the Cruyff Foundation's website is expected to be released Thursday afternoon.
Cruyff was a heavy smoker until 1991, when he underwent an emergency heart bypass.
His storied career saw him win three straight European Cups and three Ballon d'Or awards with Ajax. He also had an illustrious career as a manager, guiding Barcelona to its first European Cup win in 1992 after leading the Spanish side to the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1989.
